The In My Backyard Awards Program is Currently Inactive
The In My Backyard Awards (IMBY) were designed to identify, recognize and nurture new and existing efforts to build community within Greater Richmond neighborhoods. Over forty awards have been granted since IMBY's creation in 1997.
Applications are accepted beginning in May and are due in mid-July each year. No awards will be given for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Building healthy families and communities by empowering women in the Fairfield, Whitcomb and Creighton Court housing developments.
The Giving Heart's Furniture Share Program
Equiping non-profit organizations to address community needs by acquiring and distributing thousands of donations of clothes, furniture and other goods.
Hilliard House
Assisting homeless women and children in building their capacity to live productive lives by offering transitional shelter and related services.
Luther Memorial School's "Watching Luther Grow" Program
Cultivating cross-cultural and cross-generational community through gardening and cross-disciplinary study.
National Student Partnerships' VITA Project
Assisting disadvantaged individuals by mobilizing college students to provide tax preparation assistance, financial literacy training and services promoting self sufficiency.
Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church
Providing English as a Second Language classes and civic education classes to individuals in the southside Richmond community.
The READ (Reading & Education for Adult Development) Center
Helping low-level reading adults develop basic reading and communication skills though one-to-one tutoring.
Richmond Friends of the Homeless
Supplying hungry men, women and children in the Bainbridge, Blackwell, Jackson Ward and Gilpin Court communities with meals, clothing and other services.
