List of 2006-2007 Religious Holy Days and Festivals

The University of Richmond community includes people from a rich variety of religious traditions.  This list of major religious holy days and observances is offered as a way for our community to learn about and understand the significance of religious observances of traditions other than our own. See also www.interfaithcalendar.org and the UR Chaplaincy's weekly spiderbytes which detail religious observances (using information from the National Conference for Community and Justice's Interfaith Calendar).

Please feel free to contact the Office of the Chaplaincy if you have any questions, comments, or corrections: chaplain@richmond.edu.

Some weekly/regular religious observances:

Each Friday on or near the noon hour. Jumma Prayer (Islam). This weekly prayer time is considered mandatory for Muslims.

Jewish Shabbat (Sabbath) begins at sundown each Friday and concludes at dark on Saturday.

Sunday morning worship is traditional for many Christian traditions.

Note: 1. * Holy days usually begin at sundown the day before this date.

2. ** Local or regional customs may use a variation of this date.
