Holiday Events and Services

The Office of the Chaplaincy coordinates several services in observance of the major Christian holidays. The following list is a selection of the services offered throughout the year.

41st annual Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols

Each year, the Office of the Chaplaincy, in partnership with the Department of Music, holds the Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols. The University's Schola Cantorum and Women's Chorale present new and familiar Christmas carols and anthems in the tradition of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols that was first held at King's College Chapel in Cambridge, England, on Christmas Eve, 1918. The Rev. Dr. Craig Kocher presides over the services, which conclude with the lighting of candles by the congregation and the singing of Silent Night. This year's service will feature a guest performance by The Virginia Girls Choir.
