Pilgrimage: Spain
Mon., May 14 - Wed., May 23, 2018

Pilgrimage: Spain involved a spring semester half-unit course exploring the convivencia (harmonious co-existence) that many historians say took place between Christians, Jews, and Muslims in Spain from the 8th to the 15th centuries. The pilgrimage drew upon the Abrahamic faith traditions that shaped this significant period in Spain's history. The course culminated in a 10-day travel excursion to the Andalusia region of Spain in May 2018. The experience enabled students to better understand the past interactions and the future potential for relations among the Abrahamic religions, as well as to apply any lessons more broadly to relations across multiple faith traditions. This pilgrimage was co-led by Josh Jeffreys, Jewish Chaplain and Director of Religious Life, and Waleed Ilyas, Muslim Chaplain.
