Wilton Center

The E. Carlton Wilton Center for Interfaith Campus Ministries was dedicated in 1990 as a place of retreat and reflection for our campus community. The center and Chaplaincy staff uphold values of welcome and belonging in a supportive environment, embracing students of all backgrounds and faith traditions. We welcome anyone at the University to step away from the busyness of campus life and enter our doors to find a place of nurture and support.

The Wilton Center is located next to Cannon Chapel, among quiet pathways and gardens, and is home to the Office of the Chaplaincy, 14 campus ministries, the Multifaith Room, Pathways lounge, a conference room, and the Dr. David Burhans Inter-Religious Prayer Room. Students also use the center for fellowship, small group discussions, and meeting space for both secular and religious organizations.

Renovation

The Wilton Center was constructed in 1991 and has gone through a series of renovations in recent years.

In 2012, the Chaplaincy suite and conference room were updated with new carpet, furniture, paint, lighting, a kitchenette, and enhanced audiovisual technology.

In 2013, the former Bonner Scholars office was transformed into the Pathways Lounge, providing students with a workroom and gathering space, while nearby offices were renovated for Chaplaincy staff.

In 2014, the Multifaith Room received comprehensive upgrades, including new furnishings, carpeting, and advanced audiovisual equipment.

In 2022, the downstairs of the Wilton Center was renovated to create a meeting room and kitchenette. The hallway outside the multifaith room also received new carpeting and paint.

In 2026, the HVAC system in the Wilton Center was replaced and the multifaith room received updated carpeting and furnishings.

In the spring of 2026, the Chaplaincy received a $6 million gift from Carole and Marcus Weinstein to expand the Wilton Center to better serve the Chaplaincy’s growing communities. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
