Rev. Michael D. Sciretti Jr.
Program Specialist for Spiritual Formation

Michael joined the Chaplaincy staff in October 2016 as the Program Specialist for Spiritual Formation. Michael has served churches in Texas and Virginia, most recently as the Minister of Spiritual Formation at Freemason Street Baptist Church in downtown Norfolk, Va.

After graduating from George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University in 2002, Michael attended the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he received his certification in spiritual formation and spiritual direction. In December 2009, he received a doctorate in historical studies through Baylor University's Religion Department, with an emphasis in the history of Christian spirituality. Two of Michael’s recent publications include Entempling: Baptist Wisdom for Contemplative Prayer, co-edited and compiled with Dr. Blake Burleson, and the chapter “The Christian Year: Practicing the High Priesthood of Believers” in Gathering Together: Baptists at Work in Worship.

In 2012 he formed the Epiphany Institute of Spirituality with other Virginia Baptist Richmond ministers through which Michael continues to offer workshops and retreats in contemplative prayer, worship and living.

Michael is married to Rachel, who is Associate Pastor of Children and Youth Discipleship at Hampton Baptist Church. They have three children.
