Baccalaureate
The Office of the Chaplaincy invites you to join us for Baccalaureate on Sunday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. in Cannon Memorial Chapel. Baccalaureate is a time-honored university tradition that gathers graduates and their loved ones for a meaningful moment of reflection before Commencement. While baccalaureate has roots in the Christian tradition, at Richmond this service is intentionally multifaith and inclusive — welcoming people of all spiritual backgrounds and those of no religious affiliation.
Featuring prayer, music, and reflections from a variety of traditions, we celebrate the milestone of graduation, give thanks for our graduates and their achievements, and look forward to the contributions each will make in the years ahead.

Religious History of the University of Richmond
The University of Richmond is a secular, independent institution that values religious diversity. While founded in 1830 by the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), it no longer has a formal, controlling affiliation with any religious denomination. The school maintains an active chaplaincy supporting various faiths, including Christian, Jewish, Muslim traditions and non-religious students.
